The majority of the migration work — data synchronization, configuration preparation, and testing — happens while the physical server is still running. The actual cutover involves a final sync, shutdown of the physical server, startup of the virtual machine, and validation testing. We schedule cutover windows during off-peak hours or maintenance windows to minimize business impact. For critical workloads that cannot tolerate any downtime, we can implement parallel-run strategies where both the physical and virtual versions operate simultaneously during a transition period.
